The NEXTSTEP 4 Scheme is fully compatible only with Kaleidoscope 2.1.1 and higher. Older versions will not properly display certain gradients, such as buttons, bevel buttons and popup menus. This scheme is freeware, and is one of the official schemes on the KSA OS Schemes Page.
You may redistribute this scheme provided you keep the original archive intact with this Read Me file and you notify me at asimov@stealth.net. Please do not use resources from this scheme as a basis for another scheme without first asking permission from me at asimov@stealth.net. Any public distributions of schemes using resources stolen from this scheme without my permission will be removed from distribution by all reputable distribution sites, so please think before you act.
This scheme changes your Mac OS interface to resemble the (unreleased) NEXTSTEP 4 User Intrface. The most notable features found in the only publicly available screenshot are the blue gradient of the menu titles and window title bars. Bevel buttons, checkboxes, push buttons and popup menus also have gradients, and with new features in Kaleidoscope 2.1.1 and higher, these gradients look remarkably authentic. For best results, keep the Finder Icons, Finder Colors, Arrow Cursor and Desktop Pattern checkboxes checked in the Scheme Settings tab of the Kaleidoscope control panel. When it's all used together, this is a very elegant and useable scheme.
This scheme works well with your monitor set to Thousands and Millions of colors only. 256 color monitors can not currently enjoy the gradients properly, but I am working to rectify that problem. Look for a patch in a future release.
The folders and icons have been patched to match and mimic NEXTSTEP 4 as closely as possible, considering NEXTSTEP icons were 48 pixels high and wide, a full 50% larger canvas size. The 'icns' on Mac OS 8.5 and higher are the most realistic. Mac OS 8.5 UI elements and folder icons are patched only on Mac OS 8.5.
